What a fantastic production Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was!!!!!!!!!!  It was better than 100%.  Mr Furphy was excellent as Elvis.  I really hope there will be a video on sale showing the production.  Brilliant performance made by all.  I mustn't forget the laughs we had with Minnie Mouse aka Miss Poole and Custard aka Mr Hanna (who dressed up to raise money for Children In Need) before the show started.  To all who didn't see the production, you missed out on a great experience.  I am sure when I say this that I speak on behalf of everyone who took part in it, or came to see it, we would like another production around this time next year!!!!

We are e-mailing from England and want to praise you on the excellent site.  It would be better if you included pictures of all the pupils rather than just Yr8.

Really enjoyed browsing your website.  Glad to see a few familiar faces.  I left MHS in 1986 with brilliant memories.  Please consider displaying photos from those times please.  Mark Adams who previously mailed was in my class I would love to catch up with you.
Regards to Mrs McCall who tried hard to keep us fit and to Mr Browne who I'm sure is still easily distracted with questions of football or music.  [Confession - that was our tactic of surviving double geography on a Friday afternoon!]

Monday, 5th November 2001

Good morning from Paraguay, South America.
I'm not sure if your presentation evening has taken place as yet.  The date I have is Nov. 8th.  In the case that it hasn't, could I take this opportunity and wish you a very successful evening and please pass on my personal congratulations to the winner of the Sports Personality of the Year award.  My deepest apologies for not being able to be there to present it myself but a very big thank you to George or Margaret Moore who said they would present it on my behalf.
If by any chance a video is being made of the occasion I would like to purchase a copy.  This I would appreciate very much.
In the meantime have a wonderful evening and my best wishes to you all.

Regards,
Dean Hetherington

Subj: Hello from Canada
Great page.  I attended Markethill Public School approximately fifty years ago.  At that time, Mr Philpott was the principal.  Your page brought back some fond memories of Markethill.  Thanks.

We didn't have web pages in my day at school, many years ago.  Good looking photos of the staff (only recognise a few of the older greying ones) and I hope none remember me.  Good stuff, brought back some memories.

This web site has been produced very well in a short space of time.  All the teachers seem to have put a lot of work into the web-site.  I hope this will make many new faces come to this school in years to come.  Congratulations to all the teachers who took part in the making of the web site.

On behalf of everyone at Comic Relief, I wanted to write to you and say that we think you are ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!
Thanks to your extraordinary fundraising efforts for this Red Nose Day, Comic Relief will be able to carry on funding important projects in the UK and Africa.
Every single pound that you have raised will be spent on projects tackling poverty and making dramatic changes to the lives of thousands of vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals.
Since 1985 Comic Relief has raised over £175 million, and this Red Nose Day is set to send that total soaring to an incredible figure! In Africa, Comic Relief cash has helped build wells, educate people about HIV and AIDS, taught women to read, reconciled people after war, and got street kids in to school. In the UK Comic Relief cash has helped house homeless young people, supported women experiencing domestic violence, provided information to people about drug and alcohol abuse and helped disabled and elderly people get what is rightfully theirs.
Your astounding commitment means that we will be able to support many more projects like this and that simple fact makes you a complete STAR!

Thanks a million!

Very well designed Web site, photographs are good quality colour. Remember the standard of the site will only be as good as the current updates.

P.S. For someone who does not know, could you please advise of the history behind the many differing school ties on show in the photo album.

(Eric Geary)

Reply:- Thanks for the message, Eric, and you have obviously paid close attention to the photos!  There are currently three ties in operation in the school at the moment:- an "old" school tie which is currently being filtered out; a "new" tie which was introduced in 1999, and offered to the then Year 8 classes - within a few years this will be uniform to all pupils; and finally a Prefects tie for those selected for these posts in Year 12.

Hi it's Claire Leeman here. Glad to see you have got to grips with the internet- it's a fab website! The art gallery looks great and of a high standard. I love the photos of the staff ! it was Mrs Laverty who told me about the website and I am surprised she escaped from getting her photograph onto the net when most of the rest of the teachers have their photo on!  I would track her down to put her photo on even though she said to me she didn't want it on.  Anyway all the best for the future.

Reply:- Hi Claire, why not check out the Sponsored Walk 2000 page?  You'll find a photo of Mrs Laverty there!!

Subj: Hello from past pupil
Hello and congratulations on an excellent web site.

It's encouraging to see that Markethill High School actively encourage pupils to use computers and the web. I recognised a few names and faces on the staff list ( Mr J Browne, Mrs F McCall and Mr C Baxter), but it's been 20 years since I left to go to University in Belfast and then over the sea to England to work for Glaxo, then GlaxoWellcome and now GlaxoSmithKline, they may not remember me. I got your web site address from my niece Sarah Donaghy.

Chemical Development Division, where I work, is responsible for developing a synthetic process to scale up production of the active pharmaceutical ingredient from grams to kilograms at the Stevenage site and then transferring the process to manufacturing sites in Scotland and Singapore where the scale increase to hundreds of tonnes per annum. This process takes about seven years, produces a lot of paperwork and costs on average about 200million for each drug. I work as an analytical chemist and specialise in the analysis of metals and other elements that are used in the synthesis of the drugs. This role last year took me as far as Raleigh (GlaxoWellcome Dev Chem, USA), Fort Lauderdale (USA) Singapore (GlaxoWellcome Manufacturing) and Melbourne Australia. I picked up an interest in science at Markethill High School, can't remember all the teachers, one was Louis Huddison, and it all went from there.

Bye for now, feel free to reply
