GCSE Geography

There are three assessment components to the GCSE..

 Entry

There will be two tiers of entry for the examination:

Foundation Tier      Grades C-G

Higher Tier            Grades A*-D

Pupils considered capable of achieving a higher grade will be encouraged to sit the higher tier papers.

Each paper will be 1 hr 30mins in duration and is sat in June of Year 12. 

 Coursework

The coursework will take the form of an investigative study on the Central Business District in Armagh. Data is collected in September of Year 12. Pupils will then complete a report on their findings under teacher guidance. The report should be approximately 2,500 words.

Summarised below are the stages in the investigation with the mark allocation. 

Stage 1 Planning 10 marks
Stage 2 Data Collection 20 marks
Stage 3 Report Development 50 marks
Stage 4 Evaluation and Conclusion 20 marks
Total Marks   100 marks

A further 5 marks is allocated for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.  Pupils may word process the report but this is not a requirement.
