SOME MATHEMATICAL PARADOXES
|
A "Paradox" is a statement that seems absurd, or self-contradictory, but which may be true. Below are some mathematical paradoxes that you can amaze your teachers and friends with! |
| 1: No horse has two
tails. Every horse has one more tail than no horse; therefore every
horse has three tails.
2: A bottle half empty equals a bottle half full. As doubles of equals are equal, a bottle quite empty equals a bottle quite full.
3: 10>7 is a true statement; and if you subtract 14 from both sides you get another true statement: -4>-7. If, however, you then square both sides, this gives us: 16>49. Hmmm?! |
