School Re-Opens after Summer Holidays: Monday 1st September (Year 8 only); Tuesday 2nd September (Years 8-10); Wednesday 3rd September (all pupils)

Markethill High School, Co. Armagh,  was established in 1959 and has been achieving high standards of academic excellence in the years since.

In November 2006, our school was involved in a Standard Inspection, which resulted in an excellent and complimentary report.  A copy of this  Inspection Report can be downloaded and read at your leisure, viewable with ADOBE READER (Version 8).

Our School Prospectus can be found on its own page, now available for the first time online in its entirety, again viewable with ADOBE READER (Version 8).

You are invited to navigate the site at your leisure, however here are some suggestions to start you off:

bullet

recent visitors to the school may like to view the Events page to see if photographs of themselves have been placed there

bullet

parents might be keen to look at the Fund Raising page and keep track of the many activities the school is involved in (this section has recently been updated to include pictures of some pupils receiving awards for fund raising on behalf of Action M.S.)

bullet

an Archive page also exists, where "old" pictures from the site are stored in "thumbnail" form, rather than lose them from the site altogether

bullet

perhaps you might like to plan your social life by checking out the Quicklinks page, or looking for what's on at the local Cinema

Positive comments or suggestions about the site are always welcome; please feel free to leave a message on our Guestbook page.  Alternatively, you can simply email the Webmaster at any time.

MISSION STATEMENT

    It is the purpose of this school to provide an educational environment suited to all of the pupils entrusted to its care. The school will seek to promote a caring, supportive environment within a well-ordered school community, where staff and pupils can work in an atmosphere of mutual respect, so that each and every pupil should achieve the highest level of intellectual, personal, physical and social development of which he or she is capable.

We know that schools have a strong and lasting effect on those they serve; it is not only what we teach, but also how we teach that influences our pupils. We have the responsibility of creating within each individual an awareness of civic responsibilities and respect for authority, thus assisting pupils to become well integrated, disciplined personalities, capable of assuming an independent role in an ever-changing society.
   All pupils need to feel that they have gained something worthwhile from school.  We must, therefore, achieve an atmosphere where all our pupils can enjoy their learning within a secure and stimulating environment.
   To this end, Markethill High
aims to:-

bullethelp each pupil achieve the highest level of academic, personal, physical, moral and social development of which he or she is capable;
bulletprovide a suitably caring, supportive environment within a well ordered and disciplined school community;
bulletenter into partnership of mutual benefit with parents regarding the development and behaviour of their children;
bulletprovide pupils with experiences which will assist them in building self-esteem, thereby creating an awareness of civic responsibilities in order that they should make a positive contribution to society on completion of their secondary education.

A more detailed history of the school can be found at the dedicated pages of the Markethill High School History Club, a site maintained by our Head of Department, Mrs. I. Gray.
