Easter Rap

Narrator:            Passover was drawing near

Plans really needed to be put into gear

So Jesus gathered his disciples around

And gave the instructions, they listened without a sound.

Jesus:                 Listen my friends carry out this plan

Go to the city and there you’ll find a man

He’ll be carrying a water jar on his head

Tell him all your Teacher has said

Narrator:           So they followed the guide to his Upper Room

Disciple:            We need to prepare it for the meal – and soon!

Put the food on the table – you know what we need

To remember the night on which, from slavery we were freed

Narrator:            Jesus joined them later on that day

During the meal he had a lot to say

As they were eating he took some bread

And gave a command; this is what he said

Jesus:                  Take and eat it, also drink this wine

They resemble the body and blood that’s mine

A covenant I have made today

The price for sin, I will soon pay

Narrator:            They ended the meal by singing a song

Then to the Mount of Olives they were gone
Oh, I just remembered an important bit

About the one who would share the exact same dip

Jesus said He would be betrayed

Thirty silver pieces would be paid

In Gethsemane with Peter, James and John

Jesus went to pray, they were to watch along

But they fell asleep – asleep – asleep

The Spirit was willing but the flesh was weak

Jesus:                   Abba Father may this cup pass from me

I’ll not do my will, but yours only

Narrator:            A crowd soon gathered or armed men
Swords and lamps in their arms.  Then
                                J
udas stepped forward his Friend to betray

A kiss was the sign he gave – Foul play!
Jesus was arrested and tried that night

The evidence was scanty; he did not put up a fight!

Peter followed – a distance he kept

After the cockerel crew he wept

He experienced guilt for what he had done

                     Denying knowing God’s only Son

A trial in the morning found him guilty too

“King of the Jews” – the accusation flew.

He was ordered by crowds that he should die

The city echoed with cries of “Crucify!”

He was put on the cross, for others to die

Jesus:                 Eli Eli Lama Sabachthani

Narrator:            A sacrifice for all the wrong

He forgive the guilty in the throng

Jesus:               Father forgive them, they know not what they have done

Soldier:             Surely this was God’s Son!
